Kids Martial Arts
Empowering children with essential life skills
Most of us are aware of the huge benefits that our children get from martial arts training. Not only is there the obvious benefits of learning self-defence and the associated physical attributes such as strength, fitness, flexibility, agility and co-ordination but a whole host of other benefits to be gained. Additional skill development in areas vital for personal improvement and self-growth such as focused concentration, listening, awareness, confidence, humility, respect and self-belief.
These life skills are abundantly present and absolutely necessary in our Kid’s Martial Arts training providing a solid platform for success in life.
Our Junior JKD classes are designed to give our younger students a solid foundation in the principles and concepts of JKD whilst teaching the student practical and simplistic methods of self-defence.
Our curriculum is structured and progressive, with emphasis on application and understanding rather than merit or coloured belt achievement. Although we have a belt system in place, this is more a means of encouraging students to be the very best they can be at their particular level before learning more advanced techniques. When we feel that your child is ready to progress, they will be invited to grade to the next level. We understand that each child is different and unique and so there is never any pressure to progress at a certain pace.
CDS encourages each student to take responsibility and ownership of their own training and so has a reward system in place acknowledging consistent class attendance. Each student is given an attendance card which they are required to bring in each time and take back home with them. Each time they bring it in, they get a stamp. On the 6th stamp, they are rewarded with 5-10 mins of extra focused training with an instructor after class.
Classes consist of an initial warm up which includes body weight exercises to build stamina, strength and fitness. From there, instruction is focused on training drills to develop attributes and practical application. We cover all ranges including punching, kicking, trapping and grappling. We also include weapons training (with kali sticks) to best prepare our students should they ever have to deal with such an abhorrent situation.
Put simply, these classes are Mixed Martial Arts for self-defence and could be the best thing you ever involve your kids in.

Frequently Asked Questions
From what age can my child start martial arts training with you?
7 years and up. Although if your child is relatively close to 7 years old, can focus and listen, then get in touch and we can discuss about how to go about getting your child in for a trial.
Are classes by the term or ongoing all year round?
Our classes are membership based and we train continuously throughout the whole year.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes, we recognise that children can be in the habit of trying something once and then not committing. Because of this, we offer a free 1 week trial so that you can be sure that you are able to get your child to commit. We want to make sure that your child is eager and keen to learn.
How often does my child need to attend classes?
As often as possible. If you are able to get them to attend 3 times per week that is absolutely fantastic. However, with most children doing more than one sport, having homework to do etc. we understand that this is not always possible. Most kids attend 2 times per week and that allows for good learning reinforcement and progression.
Is there a belt system?
Although we do have a belt system in place, this is more a means of encouraging students to be the very best they can be at their particular level before learning more advanced techniques. When we feel that your child is ready to progress, they will be invited to grade to the next level. We understand that each child is different and unique and so there is never any pressure to grade in a certain time frame.
