Our Junior JKD classes are designed to give our younger students a solid foundation in the principles and concepts of JKD whilst teaching the student practical and simplistic methods of self-defence.
Our curriculum is structured and progressive, with emphasis on application and understanding rather than merit or coloured belt achievement. Although we have a belt system in place, this is more a means of encouraging students to be the very best they can be at their particular level before learning more advanced techniques. When we feel that your child is ready to progress, they will be invited to grade to the next level. We understand that each child is different and unique and so there is never any pressure to progress at a certain pace.
CDS encourages each student to take responsibility and ownership of their own training and so has a reward system in place acknowledging consistent class attendance. Each student is given an attendance card which they are required to bring in each time and take back home with them. Each time they bring it in, they get a stamp. On the 6th stamp, they are rewarded with 5-10 mins of extra focused training with an instructor after class.
Classes consist of an initial warm up which includes body weight exercises to build stamina, strength and fitness. From there, instruction is focused on training drills to develop attributes and practical application. We cover all ranges including punching, kicking, trapping and grappling. We also include weapons training (with kali sticks) to best prepare our students should they ever have to deal with such an abhorrent situation.
Put simply, these classes are Mixed Martial Arts for self-defence and could be the best thing you ever involve your kids in.
